Kidding Season 2022-2023

Let's go back to when we first started. In 2022, we brought our first goats to The Moore Farm, we were not an LLC yet but we were starting our dream farm.

We started with Holly and her baby buckling, Prince (whom we still have). Later the same day, we got Mary, NaeNae (Naomi), RaeRae (Rehab), Ginko and Cypress. We decided to breed in fall of 2022.

We bred Cypress with NaeNae, Holly and Mary. We bred Ginko with RaeRae. In the Spring of 2023, NaeNae had two doelings, Bambi & Daisy. Holly had a buckling, Dodger, and a doeling, Marie. Mary had one buckling, Mortabee. RaeRae had two bucklings, Zak and Dash. (See all babies pictured above.)

In Spring 2023, we brought home Maggie and her two babies (Jumpolina and Galileo). Galileo went to our friends almost right away. (Galileo not pictured but Jumpolina is.)

It is all a blur now but I remember being so nervous and checking on all the does constantly. I was up in the middle of the night doing barn checks. The does were amazing in delivery! The babies were healthy and did so well!

I remember having to put Mary on the milk stand to help her baby to nurse because Mary was a nervous first time mom and didn't know what to do everytime her baby boy got close to her udder. Eventually, Mary loved her boy and allowed him to nurse beautifully.

Seeing all these beautiful babies jump around and play was pure joy! Our daughters would lay on the ground and curl into balls so the baby goats could jump on their backs! So fun! I didn't take many pictures that year but I did take several fun videos! (See our Instagram for videos.)

I remember teaching the baby goats to take a bottle, it was a struggle at first but over time they would run up to us, fighting to be the first to get milk. Because we bottle fed them so much after they were a few weeks old, they became very friendly and loved snuggles and attention! I loved coming to the barn to be followed and jumped on by adorable little baby goats!

I found an amazing home for all of our first babies! They were definitely loved and spoiled! We did retain Dodger for our farm, unfortunately we lost time to a tough sickness in the winter of 2024 and were devastated.

Being able to share our precious baby goats with our friends and family was wonderful! It brought me so much pleasure in bring smiles to peoples faces! This is when I knew I wanted more goats! Oh no, goat math! Yes, some say so!

We also learned a lot about milking our goats and eventually got ourselves a milk machine to save our hands from soreness. It took a short while for the goats to get use to the machine but they transitioned wonderfully and enjoyed their grain.

All-in-all our first kidding Season was truly incredible and we were beyond blessed that it went so smoothly for all of them!
