How The Moore Farm Came About

I wanted to start off with sharing a little bit about how The Moore Farm LLC came about. This story has WAY more to it and eventually we hope to finish a book about the FULL story on how we go to this point. But for now we will share a short story so you can get to know us a little bit better.

I grew up in the city life but never truly felt like I “fit in.” My husband, Jake, grew up initially in the city but moved to the country lifestyle and feels as though that is truly where he “grew up” and called “home.” We met in college at a “Christmas Ball Dance.” For me, it was love at first sight…no joke. I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. Again, a different story and I don’t want to get carried away. I tend to do that sometimes.

Lets keep going. Jake and I started our lives together and started a family. We both worked full time jobs and it was hectic most of the time. After some time, we had a vision/dream of starting a “ranch” of therapeutic sorts to help people who struggle with anxiety, depression and PTSD.

I have struggled with these for a number of years and found that gardening and animals have helped me tremendously. I wanted to share this with others in hopes to help them find a way to cope and overcome. We wrote down our thoughts and ideas in a note app on my phone. We thought how nice that dream would be but honestly I didn’t think it would ever come to fruition.

Years later, life changed. I left my full-time job to be a homemaker. Jake didn’t like his job and we missed being close to our families. We decided we wanted to move closer to family and started to “fix up” our house to sell. (Man oh man there are so many details I am leaving out that you all will have to get in the full version in our book…which may take us a while to finish but it will get done…if I put it out there to you guys then I have accountability on following through, wink-wink.)

A HUGE life event happened in our family unexpectedly and tragically in the beginning of 2020 right after the COVID pandemic hit. It shook our world and brought our vision/dream back into our hearts. I looked at my husband, Jake, and asked if we could make our vision happen. Without hesitation he said, “Yes.”

Because we had already started the downsizing of “stuff” and fixing up our house to sell it: it all lined up to get us an opportunity to shift and look for a farm to purchase. We already had a place to temporarily move into for a year that was closer to our families.

The farmhouse searching began once we sold the house and moved into a temporary home while homemaking and homeschooling. It was quite the search and took nearly a year to find the place we now call home and The Moore Farm LLC. I honestly couldn’t believe it. Our dream was coming that much closer to fruition!

In 2021, we moved into our farmhouse, which hadn’t been lived in for a few years and the land hadn’t been used in even longer for much of farming besides the neighbor haying the hay field (which is a small part of our property).

We were THRILLED and when I think about it I am still amazed. I know all this was/is bigger than us. It is God. He made this happen because I know He (God) brought our vision of this dream come to us and it was His timing! I am humbled and honored to be His hands and feet in this journey. I wholeheartedly feel this is God’s farm. We are just the workers.

Once we moved in we met amazing neighbors that helped us take care of the property and fix up fencing and get rolling. I met incredible friends along the way with goats and taught us so much!

In 2022, we were set up to get our first goats and barn cats! All in one day we got 7 goats (4 does and 3 bucks) and two kittens! It was a dream coming true!

We worked diligently in preparing the pole barn (which was just an empty HUGE barn) with building stalls/pens for the goats for breeding season, winter and kidding season!

We did TONS of research with amazing resources out there for goats. One book was Holistic Goat Care by Gianaclis Caldwell . This book helped answer a ton of my questions from deciding what goats to get all the way to how to assist a goat with birthing (kidding). My other resource that has tremendously helped me with our goats (as first generation farmers) was another amazing homesteader/goat owner, Delci – Founder of A Life of Heritage – My Goat Binder . Both of these helped us learn all about how to care for our goats. The goat binder also has helped me keep good records of our goats because we have registered and non-registered goats.

Toward the end of winter in 2023 we received our first 8 chickens! And then it was kidding season and we were blessed with our first baby goats on the farm! We went from 7 goats to 14! As spring sprang, we purchased a few more goats and sold our first baby goats. We also had surprise kittens (our cats wondered off and found a tabby before we had them spayed). It was a busy year in 2023 with all new life on the farm. We also bought meat chickens and layer chicks!

In 2023, we applied to become The Moore Farm LLC! Wow! We are coming to almost full fruition! We are working on continuing to set up the farm before we start to set up our dream program to bring people here to help them “cope” and learn farm skills. Although, I will say since we bought this farm we have already had people here and I feel as though God is already providing therapeutic “coping” for those that have been here. I am eternally grateful and praising the Lord in this journey!

Not saying this was easy to get to this point. We have had MANY hardships and learning curves along the way. We continue to learn, grow and adjust as needed. And we are excited and eager to share all this with you! We will be posting blogs of all sorts from our garden to table, Moore animals, farm projects and so much more!
